Fresh Arts Projects

paintings by Wendy Smith

Fresh Arts manages a programme of regular exhibitions and staff activities as well as projects that improve the hospital environment.

North Bristol NHS Trust believes that artwork is an inherent part of creating a welcoming setting that promotes good health. Until the new hospital at Southmead opens in 2014 Fresh Arts are making tangible benefits to areas of Frenchay and Southmead hospitals to improve the environment and contribute to an enhanced experience for our patients.

We have now enhanced the following areas:

  • Emergency Department waiting area, Frenchay
  • Heritage Corridor, Frenchay
  • Middle Entrance, Frenchay
  • Paediatric Out Patients, Southmead
  • Viewing Rooms, Frenchay and Southmead

Fresh Arts aim to put Frenchay and Southmead hospitals at the heart of their communities. A series of participatory arts projects are held to forge links with schools and community groups focused on how hospitals can be accessed by local people. Getting involved in arts activities is also a great way for people to improve their self confidence, learn new skills and explore new ideas. For staff it can also be a way of exploring other skills with colleagues and their patients, beyond the role they play at work.

Thank you. You have really transformed the arts side of the hospital into something very exciting.

This has now inspired me to try and paint and draw a bit more often.
