Heritage Corridor, Frenchay Hospital

The Heritage Corridor at Frenchay is approximately 306 metres long and is one of the busiest corridors in Frenchay hospital and is used by many patients, visitors and staff

Fresh Arts appointed Clair Underhill as lead artist to deliver an artist-curated project that celebrates the history of Frenchay Hospital and North Bristol NHS Trust, whilst looking to the future as the hospital goes through a period of transition and change.

Clair recruited an experienced team (Roma Widger, jeweller; Mary Ingoldby, oral historian; Rob Creet, film maker; Helen Moore, poet) to work with patients, staff and local people to make jewellery, tell their stories, write poetry and contribute to the memories and anecdotes.

Rob Creet and Mary Ingoldby created a DVD containing some wonderful historical images of the hospital, as well as the voices of current and past staff members and local people.

The Heritage Corridor is now home to a series of colourful display boards depicting Frenchay through the ages, from the early 1930s to the turn of the millennium.
