Directors

Martin Bell is Director of Assurance, Information and Technology. He joined the Trust in 2002, having previously worked in the private sector. Martin has experience of the defence, drinks, construction and software industries, and has a wide experience of general management and programme delivery.

Dr Christopher Burton is our Medical Director. He joined the Trust in 1996 as a specialist registrar and a short while after was appointed consultant renal physician. He became Medical Director in April 2009 following the retirement of Dr Martin Morse.

Harry Hayer is Director of Organisation, People and Performance. Harry has a long and distinguished career in the NHS, including Board-level appointments with Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust and the Commission for Health Improvement (CHI). More recently, he has led major health reform change programmes across the NHS including health system reform in Bristol, the PCT reconfiguration programme across Avon, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire and a review of national hosted programmes on behalf of the ten SHA Chief Executives in England. Harry is a member of the national Social Partnership Forum (SPF) and has advised on numerous national workforce policy initiatives over many years. He has also worked in local government (Birmingham and Oxfordshire), the voluntary sector (Skillshare International), higher education (Cambridge University) and the commercial sector (EMI Music).

Marie-Noelle Orzel is Director of Nursing. She was previously Director of Nursing at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust. In 2005 she was awarded the OBE for services to the NHS and nursing.

David Powell is Director of Capital Projects. He was previously director of development at North West London Hospitals where his remit included developing the new Central Middlesex Hospital.

Sue Watkinson is the Director of Operations. Sue qualified as a registered general nurse in 1989 and specialised in accident and emergency, trauma and orthopaedics. Sue has held various senior managerial posts in both primary and secondary care in Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire and Essex, before moving to NBT in August 2008.

Steve Webster is Director of Finance. He is the former director of finance and IM&T of the Swindon and Marlborough NHS Trust, and previously worked at Southmead Health Service NHS Trust as deputy director of finance until 1996.

Simon Wood is Director of Facilities. Previously he was head of facilities services at the Winchester and Eastleigh NHS Trust joining NBT in March 2000. Simon's background is in estates and hospital engineering having started in the NHS as a mechanical engineering apprentice and holding a range of managerial posts over the last two decades.
