North Bristol NHS Trusts wins apprenticeship awards
North Bristol NHS Trust has scooped three
awards in the 2012 health apprenticeship awards for the south
west.
Healthcare assistant Sue Siddle won level 3
Health apprentice of the year.
Our apprenticeship lead co-ordinator Yvonne
Greenwood was given a special award for Apprentice Champion.
And the Trust was given runner up for Training
Provider of the Year.
The South West Health Apprenticeship Awards
took place on February 9 at the Learning and Research Building,
Southmead Hospital to celebrate the hard work of apprentices and
the organisation’s who train and employ them in the
region.
It is the second year of the awards organised
by the Strategic Health Authority South England, National
Apprenticeship Service and Skills for Health.
The winners now go through to the UK wide
heats to become national finalists.
Last year NBT won the South West
Macro-Employer of the year award, for organisations with more than
5,000 staff, and was listed in the City and Guilds Top 100
Employers for Apprenticeships in the UK.
There are currently more than 100 apprentices
at NBT, ranging from maternity assistants and nursing care to
business administration.
Mrs Siddle, 47, and a mum and grandmother, is
a healthcare assistant in the general outpatients department at
Southmead Hospital and is now a qualified level 3 apprentice.
She said she was thrilled to win the
apprentice of the year award.
“My apprenticeship here at Southmead Hospital
has opened so many doors for me, which is something I never thought
would happen.
“I love working as a healthcare assistant and
seeing the results of the care and help I give to patients is so
rewarding.
“Apprenticeships are a great way into a job or
career if you left school with little qualifications or have
focused on caring for your family for most of your life.”
Jane Hadfield Head of Learning and Research at
NBT said: “We are delighted that once again our commitment to
raising awareness of apprenticeships and developing opportunities
has been recognised in these awards
“Sue and Yvonne’s individual awards are a
great accolade and recognition for their hard work and
dedication.
“We have also been an ambassador to other
organisations across the south west and nationally.
“Hosting these awards is a great honour for us
and a real privilege to showcase the value of apprentices in the
NHS.”
During National Apprenticeship week NBT are
also launching a new recruitment toolkit to help managers and
employment services identify apprenticeship opportunities when
advertising job vacancies.
