Southmead Minor Injuries Unit is located at Southmead
Hospital, Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol. BS10 5ND
Open 7 days a week from 9am patients can be booked in up
until 8pm, including Sunday & bank holidays and with a car
park right outside it's easily accessible.
The minor injuries unit treats approximately 20000 patients a
year.
The MIU at Southmead is staffed by nurse practitioners who treat
injuries such as:
- Cuts & grazes
- Broken bones & X-Ray
- Minor burns
- Scalds, bites & stings
- Strains, sprains & bruises
- Minor head injuries
- Minor eye or ear problems
Most patients are treated and discharged or admitted to hospital
within 2 hours of arrival, with an average wait to be seen of just
35 minutes.
If an injury requires a specialist opinion, patients are
transferred to an appropriate specialty or the emergency department
at Frenchay Hospital.
There is a large waiting room with a separate children’s
area.
The nurse practitioners wear maroon colour uniforms and nurses
wear different colour of blue uniforms depending on banding and
experience.
