Maternity
The Maternity Service, based at Southmead Hospital, provides a
full range of maternity care, both in the community and in
hospital, to women within Bristol, North Somerset and South
Gloucestershire Primary Care Trusts.
More than 6,000 babies are born with us per year and our
dedicated midwives, doctors, maternity/healthcare assistants and
support staff are committed to giving you personalised care of the
highest standard.
This is an exciting time, as we are preparing for the opening a
new free standing midwife-led birth centre at Cossham Hospital;
more information will follow soon.
To ensure you get the maximum benefit from antenatal care, we
aim to see you for a booking appointment before 12 weeks of
pregnancy - the earlier the better!
You do not have to make up your mind about where to have your
baby until later on in pregnancy, but it is a good idea to start
thinking about your options.
It is a good idea to think about the birth in advance and write
down your preferences for labour and birth.
Aromatherapy is being offered to women in labour as a natural
pain relief technique at North Bristol NHS Trust.
Some suggestions on what to bring to hospital.
Your birth partner & your children can visit you on the
wards.
