What to Bring When You Come to Hospital in Labour
Some suggestions:
- Isotonic drinks
- Some snacks for yourself (a fridge is available for your
use)
- Some food and drinks for your birth partner(s)
- Facecloth or water spray for cooling down
- A pillow for extra comfort and for something that smells of
home
- Something loose and cool to wear in labour, for example an
oversized t-shirt, a front-opening nightie or men’s shirt
- Warm socks
- Lip balm
- Something to tie back long hair
- Something comfortable to wear after the birth
- Dressing gown, slippers
- BIG cotton knickers – disposable ones tend to be a bit small
for comfort
- Nursing bras
- Breast pads
- Maternity sanitary towels (not slimline pads)
- Toiletries and towel
- Your favourite music – CD players are provided in all birth
rooms
- Camera
- Some money for parking/phone/shop/café, but avoid bringing in
valuables
For your baby:
- Nappies (we do not provide nappies or cotton wool)
- Cotton wool (we recommend using cotton wool and water rather
than baby wipes)
- Vests and babygros (sleepsuits)
- Hats
- Some muslins
Help us keep the postnatal wards clean, safe and clutter
free
When you are transferred to the postnatal ward after birth,
please ask your birth partner to take home items you no longer
require, so that all your belongings fit into the bedside locker
and on the shelves of the cot provided on the postnatal wards.
Please do not bring in your baby’s car seat until you are
certain that you are going home that day.
