What is Outlook?
Outlook is a psychological support service for anyone affected by a
disfigurement or visible difference.
Outlook offers support and help for people of all ages who are coming to
terms with a different or unusual appearance or a disfigurement. It is a
confidential service for children, adolescents and adults who experience
emotional or psychological problems linked to a disfigurement or visible
difference. It also provides information support and training to health
professionals.
The types of disfigurement or visible difference may be:
- Congenital: such as a birth mark or cleft lip and palate
- Caused by an accident: such as a burn, scald or scars from a road
traffic accident
- As a result of surgery: such as scars from removal of a tumour
- Caused by a condition or disease: such as Thyroid Eye Disease,
stroke, facial palsy, cancer, skin conditions
Outlook is based at Frenchay Hospital, Bristol, UK, but is open to anyone
from the wide surrounding area who is able to travel to the unit for an
appointment. A referral from a heath professional is required.
