SCAR MANAGEMENT

The Frenchay Burn Unit, Scar
Management Service offers advice and conservative management to help treat
and prevent hypertrophic and keloid scarring that has developed following a burn injury, skin
grafting, surgery or a laceration.
Hypertrophic
Scarring: hypertrophic literally means 'overgrowth' - it is
characterised by being raised, hard, red and 'itchy'.

Keloid Scarring:
a sharply
elevated, irregularly shaped, progressively enlarging scar due to the
formation of excessive amounts of collagen in the corium during connective
tissue repair.
(Dorlands Illustrated
Medical
Dictionary )
A keloid scar will grow and spread beyond the
site of the original injury.
