The Sanctuary Gallery - Imagine, South West Textile Group – May – August 2017
About the Exhibition:
“The theme of ‘Imagine’ was selected as a response to the exhibition venue; we considered the building and the diversity of people who reside in it. Most of the patients, visitors or staff will, at some point, imagine their future, be that health outcomes, holidays, hobbies or simply what they plan to do when they leave the building.
We meet to talk about the theme, bouncing ideas for work amongst each other. The work starts and we have smaller meetings to check how the work is coming progressing. Members gain confidence and maturity talking about their work and group constructive criticism is always welcome.
We present our response to the theme ‘Imagine’ and hope you find our work thought provoking, innovative and exciting.”
About the Artists:
South West Textile Group will be 28 years old in 2017, and was formed as an exhibiting group to promote the best in contemporary textile practice in the South West region of England. Past exhibitions have been held at The Eden Project, Slimbridge Wildlife & Wetlands Centre, Dartington College, Bridport Arts Centre, Taunton Museum, Bristol Guild Gallery and other venues in the South West.
Encouragement of new work and personal development of the artists is a key foundation of the group. The 30 -35 group members use a range of textile disciplines in their work including embroidery, weaving, photography, paper, eco- dye/print and felt.
Buying a piece from the exhibition:
For all sales or enquiries, please contact us. If an exhibited artwork is sold as a direct result of being displayed in the gallery, the artist donates 20% of the price to Fresh Arts. This commission is then used to purchase new works of art for waiting areas and wards from local artists.
