Assurance on fire safety at North Bristol NHS Trust
Friday, 30 June 2017
In response to the Grenfell Tower fire we have reviewed all of the buildings across our estate. We can confirm that we have limited amounts of cladding and where it has been used it does not contain similar materials to those identified from the fire. The materials used are appropriate and do not pose any fire safety risks.
Southmead Hospital’s Brunel building opened in May 2014, having been built to modern specifications and includes the latest recommendations for fire safety, including fire compartments and sprinklers.
We would like to reassure patients, visitors and staff that there are multiple layers of fire protection within our buildings. We have all of the appropriate maintenance, inspection and monitoring programmes required in place and have regular inspection from the Fire Service.
In addition every member of staff receives regular fire training to ensure they understand how to respond in the event of a fire.
