Christmas at the Barbara Russell Children’s Unit

Children being cared for at the Barbara Russell Children’s Unit at Frenchay Hospital have received some extra special visitors in the run-up to Christmas.

John Lewis Cribbs Causeway donated £1,000 worth of Christmas presents and sent Father Christmas himself to hand them out. The department store also donated soft toys which were given to the youngsters.

Players from Bristol Rovers and Bath Rugby Club popped in to meet children and staff, hand-out special goodies and sing Christmas carols and actors from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School performed festive scenes from the Christmas Nativity.

Julie Fisher, Play Specialist at the Children’s Unit, said: “Being in hospital at any time is hard for children, particularly at Christmas, so every year we do our best to brighten up their time with us by organising special festive events and visits. It’s so nice to see the children’s faces light up.”
