Cossham Birth Centre update

Friday, 28 September 2018

North Bristol NHS Trust can confirm Cossham Birth Centre will reopen on Monday 1 October (7.30am) after a temporary closure.

Rachel Fielding, Director of Midwifery at North Bristol NHS Trust, said:

“Due to an unprecedented number of women needing induction of labour, we took the decision last Friday to temporarily divert all women booked for Cossham Birth Centre to Mendip Birth Centre at Southmead Hospital.

“This is part of our well-rehearsed contingency plans to maximise our midwifery workforce on one site and maintain the safety of all women and babies in our care.

“From Monday we will reopen Cossham Birth Centre and open six more beds at our Cotswold Unit at Southmead Hospital to help ease the pressure.”
