Cossham Hospital open day

Friday, 22 February 2013

Local people are invited to see for themselves what improvements have been made to Cossham Hospital in Kingswood at an open day on Saturday, March 2 between 10am and 1pm.

The hospital has undergone a £19million refurbishment by NHS South Gloucestershire and reopened to patients in January. Services are run by North Bristol NHS Trust.

The building has new, modern and fully accessible facilities from which the NHS will deliver double the amount of outpatient appointments. This means that many local people will no longer have travel to an acute hospital to see their consultant.

The refurbishment has kept many original features from the building which first opened in 1907.

Key new departments include the area’s first stand-alone, midwife-led birth centre and a brand-new renal dialysis unit - which opened to patients in October 2012.

The hospital will also have enhanced x-ray, ultrasound, MRI and CT scanning facilities and will be able to offer twice as many physiotherapy appointments than before.

Sharon Hadley, Cossham Hospital Campaign Manager for North Bristol NHS Trust, said: “We’ve had some really positive feedback about the refurbishment of Cossham Hospital from the patients who have already used the service.

“The Hospital is an important feature for many local people, particularly in Kingswood and East Bristol, and we want to use this opportunity to show them the fantastic new facilities that are offer to them. We look forward to seeing you on March 2.”

Tours are available at 10am, 10.45am, 11.30am, 12.15pm and 1pm (last tour finishes at 1.45pm).

Tours take 45 minutes. People are asked to arrive and register 15 minutes before their tour starts. Tours will cover outpatients, physiotherapy, imaging and the Birth Centre (subject to availability)
