Every little helps at Minor Injuries Unit
Monday, 8 August 2011
The Minor Injuries Unit at Southmead Hospital is receiving hundreds of pounds worth of new toys and books thanks to the generosity of staff at the Tesco store in Eastville.
Thousands of children are cared for at the Minor Injuries Unit every year, with injuries ranging from cuts and grazes to broken bones and minor head injuries.
Sadly there were very few toys to keep children occupied while they were waiting for their appointment, so the hospital’s Shine together charity put out a fundraising appeal to the local community.
The staff at the Tesco Bristol East Extra store on Eastgate Road immediately offered their help.
The store is now donating play kitchen equipment as well as books and other toys.
Trevor Reid, head of fundraising for Shine together said: "We were in desperate need of toys in the children’s waiting area in the Minor Injuries Unit.
"There was nothing available for children to play with when they arrived in the unit.
"Thanks to the incredible generosity of the staff team at Tesco there will now be toys and books to keep the children entertained and distracted, at a time when they may be distressed from their injuries."
