Exceptional Healthcare Awards 2018: Team of the Year

Wednesday, 7 November 2018

Ahead of our Exceptional Healthcare Awards, supported by Southmead Hospital Charity, we are highlighting the nominees who have been shortlisted.

Today we are sharing the shortlist in the Team of the Year category. Working together in our teams, specialities, divisions and across the wider trust to deliver exceptional service is something we pride ourselves on as we strive to work together as OneNBT. This new award recognises an individual, a team or teams who have collaboratively worked together to break down silos and solve problems to create a better patient experience or staff working environment.

Here are the nominations:

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Team

The NICU team provide such high-quality care that they have among the best outcomes in the country. As a team, they work together to solve problems, they support each other through hard times and they listen to each other. The way the team has pulled together to reduce agency spend, by working extra hours and swapping shifts at short notice to ensure that the babies get the care they need is commendable, and illustrates how daily, they go above and beyond.

NICU puts both the patient and their families first, with every decision made collaboratively to engage parents in the care of their babies.

Respiratory Specialist Team

The Respiratory Specialist Team is comprised of nurses, physiotherapists, physiotherapy technicians and administrators and every member makes a valuable contribution.

Since February 2017, the team has taken part in the National Asthma and COPD (NACP) secondary care COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) audit. The Best Practice Tariff (BPT) has financial remuneration and NBT is one of 40% of trusts nationally who achieve this.

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation programme (LEEP) consistently achieves highly on audits (national 2015/2017) with a constantly evolving programme to suit patient needs and improve patient outcomes. NBT is now a Regional Severe Asthma Centre. The rapidly expanding biologics service offers innovative biologic treatment which in many cases is life changing. Despite a year of professional challenges and -for some- personal difficulties, the team support each other fantastically well.

Their recent achievements include: merging two nurseries, becoming profitable, maintaining an Ofsted ‘Good’ rating, designing and overseeing the renovation of the new nursery.

All of this has been done with steely determination, compassion, care, enthusiasm and professionalism while never losing focus on the critical things: the children.

The team continue giving many children a great start and happy memories, for life.

Weight Management and Bariatric Surgery Team

The Weight Management and Bariatric Surgery team is one of the best performing and happiest teams at NBT; it has achieved exceptional recent advances in patient care and outcomes.
