Exceptional Healthcare Awards - Public and Members Award
Friday, 20 November 2015
North Bristol NHS Trust is honouring outstanding members of staff and volunteers with its Exceptional Healthcare Awards.
The 2015 awards, supported by Southmead Hospital Charity, recognise and reward the hard work of staff and volunteers at the Trust.
The awards will take place this evening (Friday November 20) and in the lead up to the ceremony we are showcasing the shortlisted nominees in each category.
The final category is the Public and Members Award, a special award voted for by patients and Foundation Trust public members. The shortlisted nominees are described in the words of the people who nominated them.
Dr Vernon Parfitt, Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist
“Dr Parfitt has been treating me for hormone deficiencies and for complex hypertension for a couple of years now.
“Both conditions have been extremely challenging both of themselves and because I also have a rare medical condition with rare complications. Dr Parfitt has managed my hormone losses with extreme patience and care, working around the rare condition to ensure my treatment does not exacerbate it.
“He did not hesitate to refer me on to an international hypertension expert in London for additional advice when it was needed and he made local arrangements to support that care for me so that trips to London were minimised.
“Dr Parfitt has gone above and beyond what one expects of a consultant, to ensure that all avenues have been tried to alleviate some of the worst aspects of my condition. It has been painstaking and complex to do so but he has made the process accessible, understandable and as easy as possible for me.
“I cannot praise him enough because taking on such a difficult challenge around a rare condition is something that would be easy to avoid. I hope he receives the recognition he deserves, because he has undoubtedly made my life better.”
Dr Parfitt said: “I was delighted, humbled and very grateful to be nominated for this.”
Cardiac Rehab Team
“My husband and I wanted to vote for the Cardiac Rehab Team (who work at Bradley Stoke Health Centre).
“They are amazing! Nothing is too much trouble for them. You can speak to them or ring them at any time with a problem and they will reassure you and always manage to solve any problems however difficult or trivial.
“They are always available even when patients have finished rehab they can still get in touch with them and they sort any worries you might have.
“A great team that even raise money themselves to buy and replace equipment for their patients.”
