Thursday, 2 November 2017

North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) has welcomed the appointment by NHS Improvement and NHS England of Frank Collins as Interim Chair.

Frank Collins

Frank is currently Chairman of The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH) in Oswestry and joins NBT with immediate effect while recruitment for a permanent Chair takes place. He will continue in his role at RJAH.

Welcoming Frank to the Board, Andrea Young, Chief Executive said: “Frank has considerable experience in healthcare leadership and we warmly welcome him to the Trust. As a former Chief Executive of Kettering General Hospital and Heatherwood and Wexham Park NHS Trust, Frank brings a wealth of knowledge and understanding of how a busy acute hospital works. We look forward to working with him at a time when we are focusing on improving our four-hour performance in our Emergency Department and ensuring we maintain momentum on our financial recovery.

I would also like to thank our outgoing Chairman, Peter Rilett, who has been a Board member for 14 years and has acted as Trust Chairman for eight. Peter oversaw considerable change in the Bristol health community including the centralisation of specialist services and the opening of the new Brunel building and we are incredibly grateful for his support and commitment.”

Frank added: “I am delighted to have been invited to assume the position of Interim Chair at North Bristol NHS Trust. It is evident that the Trust has a deep-rooted commitment to delivering quality healthcare to our patients and I am already very aware of the commitment of all the staff to providing the very best care they can.

I look forward to playing my part in leading the organisation during the next few months and to this end, look forward to meeting as many staff as possible. I am also very much looking forward to working with Andrea and the executive team, as well as all members of the Board.”

Jennifer Howells, South West regional director for NHS Improvement and NHS England, said: “Frank has a wealth of experience as an NHS leader both as chief executive and chair. I am confident his appointment as interim Chair at North Bristol NHS Trust will provide the leadership to drive sustainable improvements in care for local patients. I look forward to working with him and the executive team over the coming months.”
