Happy International Day of the Midwife #IDM2020
Monday, 4 May 2020
Today we celebrate #IDM2020 and at 12 noon we will clap for our Midwives! NBT has over 300 midwives helping deliver over 6,000 babies every year at home, at Cossham Birth Centre, at Mendip Birth Centre and Central Delivery Suite – thank you.
Ailish Edwards, Deputy Director of Midwifery & Deputy Head of Nursing for Women & Children, has been a midwife for over 25 years. Hear her talk about why she loves being a midwife
International Day of the Midwife began in 1951 out of a global need to recognise the life-saving work performed by midwives around the world and to bring more attention to maternal and newborn health issues.
Today, the event is observed each year on May 5 by more than 50 nations and co-ordinated by the International Confederation of Midwives in partnership with its member organisations.
2020 also happens to be International Year of the Midwife meaning IDM will have the added platform of global recognition throughout the year. The theme for both IDM and International Year of the Midwife is Midwives with women: celebrate, demonstrate, mobilize, unite – our time is NOW!
Join us on Southmead Maternity Services or Cossham Birth Centre Facebook pages and share your thanks to the midwife that supported you through your birth! Who will you thank? Don’t forget to use #ithank #IDM2020
