Heart care services in Bristol boosted by £8,000 donation
Wednesday, 3 November 2010
Cardiac rehabilitation services in Bristol are today (Monday 1st November 2010) receiving a boost thanks to a donation of over £8,000.
The Heartful Dodgers appeal at Southmead and Frenchay hospitals is receiving the donation from Healthcare provider Simplyhealth from its ‘Bristol Community Fund’.
The donation of £8,387 will be spent on providing new portable equipment for patients with heart disease, including an ECG machine, heart rate monitors, blood pressure machines and exercise equipment.
Trevor Reid from the hospitals fundraising team said, “Simplyhealth’s generous donation will go towards providing much needed and state-of-the-art portable equipment for patients with heart disease, that we can use in our hospital and community bases to deliver our cardiac rehabilitation programmes. It will help us to provide a gold standard service to our patients in Bristol and the surrounding areas.”
The funds will also be used to provide a brand new Tai Chi programme, for less mobile and less fit people who are recovering from a heart incident. It will provide care for between sixty and one hundred new patients in and around Bristol.
As well as making the donation on Monday, staff from Simplyhealth are being shown around the Cardiac Centre at Frenchay hospital and speaking to Cardiac Specialists about how the donation will make a difference to local patients.
The Heartful Dodgers appeal is being run by the North Bristol NHS Trust Cardiac Rehabilitation team. The team of Nurse Specialists and Exercise Specialists care for patients and families in North Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire who have had a heart attack or coronary artery bypass surgery.
The appeal aims extend cardiac rehabilitation services to patients in places such as Kingswood and Clevedon, start new services for local patients who have mobility issues and create new services for other groups of cardiac patients such as patients who have had stents inserted.
Trevor added, “This donation will help a central part of the appeal get underway and we would like to thank all of the staff at the Bristol office of Simplyhealth for their fantastic support.”
