A radiology assistant at Frenchay Hospital has successfully completed a 1,500km charity cycle ride from Bristol to Barcelona in aid of the Dreams and Wishes Fund.
The charitable fund, founded by Southmead Hospital, aims to make the dreams and wishes come true of terminally ill adults being treated at North Bristol NHS Trust.
James Barber set off from Southmead on May 16 and he reached journey’s end just under four weeks later - two days ahead of schedule.
He endured temperatures of 35 degrees and slept rough at the side of the road but he escaped without suffering any serious injuries and also lost three kilos in weight.
An exhausted James said: “My best moment was seeing the sign for the ‘Province of Barcelona’ with the sun setting over my shoulder.”
