Lord mayor helps to celebrate school nurses

Wednesday, 18 June 2014

The work of school nurses in Bristol and South Gloucestershire was celebrated during a special event.

Community Children's Health Partnership (CCHP), which is run by North Bristol NHS Trust, employs the nurses in the area, who gathered to share their experiences and skills.

And they were honoured to be visited by Faruk Choudhury during his last day as Lord Mayor of Bristol, who opened the event.

The event, held at the Vassall Centre in Fishponds, was the first time all the teams have come together and was attended by 75 people.

It celebrated the work of school nurses while also giving them the chance to share innovative practice and discuss different skills and it is hoped the day could become an annual event.

The Lord Mayor was the first of the day’s speakers, describing the service as a “silent service” with a wealth of experience and knowledge.

Other speakers included representatives from Barnardo’s, the young people’s health service 4YP, North Bristol NHS Trust director of nursing Sue Jones, CCHP director Jane Schulte and senior partnership nurses.
