Bristol mums-to-be - find out more about our wonderful midwifery team at Cossham Birth Centre.
Our colleagues at Cossham Birth Centre have started creating short profiles of the midwifery team so that mums-to-be can learn more about the amazing work they do, find out what motivates them and why they love their job.
The team are hoping these profiles will make mums-to-be feel more comfortable and confident about their birthing experience and the team who will be supporting them.
Kate is one of the wonderful midwives at Cossham. She has worked at the birth centre since it opened in 2013.
Tell us a bit about yourself Kate
I am married and have two lovely boys. I love to go walking, which is a good job as I have to walk the family Springer Spaniel Bonnie a lot! In the last year I have started running and recently ran the Bristol 10K race. I am contemplating running the Bristol Half Marathon in 2018 for charity.
Why did you become a midwife?
I was born in a free-standing birth centre myself. It was always my dream job to become a midwife. I started training straight from college and qualified in 1999.
Is your role tough?
Supporting women during active birth can be physically demanding for midwives as we encourage women to adopt upright positions. We spend a lot of time leaning into birth pools too!I have always cycled to work as it sets me up for the shift ahead.
What do you like about working at Cossham Birth Centre?
I am so proud and passionate about Cossham Birth Centre and the care we provide to women and their families. I feel privileged to work with such an amazing team.
Mums-to-be who are having a straightforward pregnancy and would like a natural birth, may be able to choose the homely environment of Cossham free-standing birth centre. Find out more about the centre here.
