Memory Café launches at Elgar 1

Thursday, 28 September 2017

Today we launched a Memory Café at Elgar 1 for staff, patients living with dementia and their carers.

The Memory Café offers information leaflets for carers and staff, alongside music, art and other activities for patients living with dementia. Carers and staff can chat to our Dementia Champions and members of Carers Liaison for advice and support, while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee and cake.

We currently run a Memory Café in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society in Southmead Hospital’s Brunel building. The initiative was highly commended at the 2015 BMJ Awards in the Dementia Team of the Year category.

Dementia care matron Jet O’Neill said: “We have an established Memory Café already in Brunel, and we needed an accessible Memory Café for patients and carers in Elgar. The day room in Elgar 1 provides the perfect environment for activities for patients, and to share information with carers and staff.”

The Memory Café will be held on the last Thursday of every month in the day room at Elgar 1, between 2pm-3.30pm.
