Claire Boyd's first work on the wards of Frenchay and Southmead hospitals was as an agency nursing auxiliary in the 1980s.
At the time Claire and her husband fostered children and she was able to fit shifts around that at the hospitals and local nursing homes.
She then undertook her nurse training and started work on Ward 3 at Frenchay Hospital - a male neurosurgery ward - in 1997.
