Scores on the doors in national awards

A new project to publicise hygiene and safety scores on every ward at North Bristol NHS Trust has been recognised in national Department of Health awards.
North Bristol NHS Trust has been highly commended in the Safety Express awards on October 12 2011.
The Safety Express awards recognised how we are using patient and public involvement to inform patient safety and experience improvements.
Through a series of surveys, involving patient panellists and 600 members of the public, patients told us that they wanted to know key information when visiting or being admitted to a ward.
They told us that they felt this information was important in providing them with reassurance about hygiene and safety.
A system of posters now publicise key information in each ward across Frenchay and Southmead Hospitals.
Each ward now displays a set of posters with key measures like:
- Days since last infection of C-diff and MRSA
- Hand hygiene scores
- Ward cleanliness score
- Pledge posters showing key priorities for the Trust and actions that each ward team pledge to fulfil following patient feedback
- Information on how to prevent pressure ulcers
These information posters have now been adapted for outpatient clinics to ensure that all our departments are consistently monitoring safety and hygiene.
