Consultant orthopaedic surgeon Andrew Porteous has been highly recommended by the country’s leading knee surgeons in a national survey.

The Daily Mail survey asked 40 of the best surgeons who they would choose to refer their nearest and dearest for a knee replacement.

Mr Porteous works alongside James Murray and James Robinson at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre at Southmead Hospital.

He also runs the Knee Injury Service at Frenchay Hospital and is the lead knee surgeon for North Bristol NHS Trust.

He is included in the ‘highly recommended’ section of the report.

Mr Porteous’ is described in the guide as: “This is a conscientious and up-and-coming knee surgeon who has already won himself a significant reputation. (He) does a lot of revision surgery, so knows what works and what doesn’t. Also gets good marks from his patients.”

Mr Porteous said: “It is fantastic to be highly-regarded in your profession and by your peers, but it is more satisfying to know that my patients value the work that I do.

“It is great for me and for North Bristol NHS Trust to get this recognition but these results would not be possible without having a great team at Southmead Hospital.”
