Cyclists are preparing to dress up in period outfits for a charity bike ride with a difference.

Ride Back in Time eventThe ‘Ride back in Time’ event will see participants pedalling historic bikes and wearing vintage costume as they tackle a course from Bath to Bristol.

The ride is being staged in support of Shine Together, the charity based at Southmead and Frenchay Hospitals.

The event takes place on Sunday July 8 and will start at the Avon Valley Cyclery in Bath and finish at the Marriott Royal Hotel at College Green, Bristol.

Organisers of ‘Ride back in Time’ are inviting keen cyclists to sign up.

Craig Denning from Bristol based Dream Cycling Club said: “This is a great opportunity for cyclists to dress up and raise funds for a great Bristol charity.

"We are really looking forward to seeing everyone riding in their period costumes be it plus-fours and flat caps, your 80’s wool or anything between.

"We hope the Ride Back in Time will evoke memories of cycling from a bygone era. We would love people to join us and get into the spirit of the event. ”

Funds raised from the event will help provide new specialist equipment and enhanced care at Southmead and Frenchay Hospitals.(L to R) Ride back in Time Organisers Dave Hart and Craig Denning

Fellow organiser Dave Hart was motivated to support the Shine Together charity after he broke his back in a jet ski accident and was treated at Frenchay Hospital.

Mr Hart said: “I am so grateful for the care I received at Frenchay Hospital. There was a point when I thought I might never walk again, so to be taking part in this event is a tribute to the work of the medical teams.”

Trevor Reid, Head of Fundraising at North Bristol NHS Trust, who run Frenchay and Southmead Hospitals, said: "This is a really fun and unique way to support Shine Together and make a difference to local people's lives at the same. The ride will be a great spectacle and will help improve care for many of our patients."

On arrival at College Green, the participants will be greeted with a spread of strawberries and champagne kindly donated by the Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel.
