Our Learning and Research Centre is a purpose built facility for medical and healthcare training, including facilities for clinical and practical skills training, alongside traditional seminar and lecture spaces. The centre is home to our staff development and training team, as we as the medical education departments, resucitation training department, and our library and knowledge services.

Leadership and Management - Progression Pathways
As part of our vision for the year ahead, as detailed in our Business Plan 2019/2020, the Trust is focussed on expanding leadership development programmes for staff.
We currently offer accredited Management Development Programmes, a range of management skills workshops and other development activities such as team building to ensure staff who manage and lead, are skilled and confident.
There are four key areas in which you could further develop your management skills within our Trust.
OneNBT Management Programme
OneNBT Management is a series of stand-alone management modules to provide ongoing support to managers within the Trust.
Modules include the core 5 which NBT recommends to all new managers:
- Appraisal and Development review
- Promoting positive attendance
- Improving staff performance
- Managing your budget
- Leading through diversity and inclusion
ILM Level 2
The ILM Award offer opportunities for individuals who have or aspire to have team leading or management responsibilities to achieve a recognised management award. Our Trust currently run the Accredited ILM Leadership and Management Programme - ILM Award in Leadership and Team Skills - Level 2.
OneNBT Leadership and Management Apprenticeships
The OneNBT Leadership and Managment Apprenticeship is a 15 month programme with a recognised qualification on completion, aimed at aspiring, new and experienced managers that require a full breadth of leadership and management from leadership styles and project management to organisational strategy and communications.
OneNBT Leadership Programme
The OneNBT Leadership programme was launched in 2019 and was developed in consultation with staff. The course is aimed at new, experienced and senior managers, offering a flexible programme of modules tailored to your needs.
The Clinical Simulation Space
Simulation training is widely used at North Bristol NHS Trust as a way to train and develop our staff, improving clinical practice, patient safety, and developing understanding of human factors.
The Clinical Simulation Space is a purpose built simulation facility designed to support high quality and effective simulation based training. It is located on the ground floor of our Learning and Research centre at Southmead Hospital.
The space is designed to ensure that the set-up and delivery of simulated scenarios is as straight forward as possible, with a flexible clinical space that can be used for a wide variety of clinical and surgical scenarios.
And importantly, we've carefully designed our viewing and debrief space to create an environment for learners to observe and understand their behaviours, building knowledge and improving their practice.
We are very proud of the programmes we run, whether simulation acutely unwell medical scenarios for junior doctors, reheasing surgical procedure with our Theatre teams, or the complete care of patients on our wards, training all staff, both medical and non-medical together.

Developing our existing workforce
Alongside our internal training programmes, we work closely with external education providers to provide a wide range of continuing education programmes designed to support people in practice.

Return to Practice - Nursing
We are well equipped to offer you outstanding support if you are a Nurse looking to return to practice.
In order to complete you practice requirements, you will be put onto a placement in one of our clinical areas, with the support and supervision of a mentor. Choosing to do your 'Return to Practice' with us will help you re-apply for NMC registration.
Although we do recruit staff in these areas who wish to return to practice, we cannot guaranteee you a permanent post once you have completed the programme.
