Patients Know Best (PKB)

The South West Neuromuscular Operational Delivery Network is introducing a patient portal called 'Patients Know Best' or PKB.

What is it?

PKB is a portal to help patients to manage their care record.  It is a patient held electronic record controlled by the patient.  It aims to support the patient with the self-management of their neuromuscular condition:

• All the information about the condition is easily accessible and stored in one place
• Patients can communication and get advice from the specialist neuromuscular team

Who can see the information?

The patient controls who to share the information with; this may be healthcare professionals (e.g. GP, emergency or hospital teams) or community, family or carers.

The patient can choose to share all or partial information as they wish.

What are the benefits to you of using PKB?

You can use PKB on your computer, smart phone, tablet or any device that has an internet connection.

You don't need to update your device or install new software, simply use your web browser to log in.

If you don't use the internet, but would still like to benefit from the functions that PKB can offer, you can have a family member or carer manage your patient record for you.  All you need to do is provide their email address instead of yours and the team will create a record.

Is it secure?

Yes, PKB is covered by the Data Protection Act 2018 and operates within strict NHS security standards.

How do I register to use PKB?

If you would like to use PKB, please forward your email address, along with your name and postcode to the neuromuscular team:  swneuromuscularodn@nbt.nhs.uk

We will create your record and you will receive an email from PKB to register.

Can I change my mind?

You can choose to leave the system at any time.
