Celebrating Young Carers Action Day at NBT

Two young carers and two members of staff from NBT sat around a table

Today is Young Carers Action Day and we are proud to announce our commitment to the Young Carers Covenant that has been launched today by the Carers Trust. We are one of the first organisations to pledge our commitment to the covenant and we’re delighted to be able to do so.

There are an estimated one million young carers across the UK; that equates to two young carers per school class of 30.  That means there could be 10,000 across Bristol and South Gloucestershire and most of these are hidden.

We want to ensure that we identify and support Young Carers.

On 15 February we welcomed five inspiring Young Carers and their support workers from the Carers Support Centre to Southmead Hospital to meet staff and look at some of our wards through the eyes of a young carer.

We hope this is the start of our partnership with this incredible group of young people and that we can make a real difference to their experience in our Trust. Thank you to all the staff who supported the visits and to the Young Carers and Carers Support Centre staff who gave up their time to help us improve our services.
