Brain Tumour Bank ResearchBRASH has a wide range of local and national research projects aimed at translating basic research into clinical trials from i.e. going from ‘Bench to Bedside’, with active clinical trials units for both adults and children.

The projects include:

  • Studies into the molecular genetics and biomarkers of brain tumours
  • Abnormal pathways driving brain and spinal cord tumours
  • Neuroradiology studies using metabolite profiles with NMR to predict tumour behaviour 
  • Convection enhanced delivery to improve drug delivery to tumours among many others

Crispin Wigfield BSc. MB ChB. MD. MSt. FRCS (Eng) FRCS (Neurosurg).

Crispin completed higher surgical training in neurosurgery on the South West training rotation. He was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine (M.D.) for research into spinal biomechanics and cervical disc replacements. Crispin completed the National Spine Fellowship in Leeds and was awarded an HCA International Travelling Fellowship. His first appointment as a consultant neurosurgeon was to The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Liverpool before returning to the South West. He completed five years as Divisional Clinical Director for Neurological and Musculoskeletal Sciences. In 2020 he was awarded a Master of Studies Degree in Social Innovation from the University of Cambridge Judge Business School.

Crispin is an elected member of council for the Society of British Neurological Surgeons and Honorary Treasurer of the Joint Neurosciences Council. He is a member of the European Spine Society and the British Association of Spine Surgeons.
