Bristol City Robins Foundation and Bristol Bears Foundation worked alongside Bristol NHS Group, a partnership between North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW), to deliver free health checks for Foundation staff, as part of a shared commitment to improving health and wellbeing across the wider club community.

The initiative saw Bristol NHS Group deliver on-site NHS health checks at the Robins Foundation Degree Hub, offering Robins Foundation and Bristol Bears Foundation staff the opportunity to access vital health screenings and advice in a convenient and supportive environment.

The collaboration marked a step forward in strengthening the relationship between the Foundations and the NHS, with a focus on early intervention, prevention, and promoting healthier lifestyles.

The health checks included a range of assessments such as blood pressure, cholesterol, heart monitoring, and diabetes screening, alongside advice and signposting on mental health, menopause, prostate awareness, smoking, and alcohol support.

By working together, the Robins Foundation and Bristol NHS Group continued to align their approach to health and wellbeing, ensuring greater reach and impact across Bristol.

Lisa Wood, Head of Health & Wellbeing at the Bristol City Robins Foundation, said: “Working collaboratively is key to everything we do, and we were really pleased to work alongside Bristol NHS Group and Bristol Bears Foundation on this initiative.

“These health checks were a fantastic opportunity for staff to take proactive steps in managing their health, while also highlighting the importance of accessible, preventative support. By working more closely together, we can continue to expand the reach and impact of our health and wellbeing programmes across the city.”

Tim Whittlestone, Chief Medical and Innovation Officer, Bristol NHS Group said: “It was great to see this collaboration with Bristol City Robins Foundation and Bristol Bears Foundation in action. At Bristol NHS Group, we are proud to support initiatives like these where our colleagues and expertise can make a real difference within our communities.”

Maria Kane, Chief Executive, Bristol NHS Group said: “I would like to thank our Bristol NHS Group clinical colleagues and Bristol City Robins Foundation for facilitating preventative healthcare in the community, and I look forward to seeing how this collaboration will drive positive health outcomes for our populations.”

Staff were able to access the free health checks across two dates, with further sessions to be explored based on demand.

This initiative reflected a shared ambition between all organisations to prioritise wellbeing and create healthier communities across Bristol.
