North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) has welcomed the appointment of new permanent Chair Michele Romaine to its Board.

A Board level executive with experience in Strategy, Change and Operational Management, Michele is currently a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust. She also holds the positions there of Vice Chair, Chair of the Governance Committee and a member of the Audit Committee.

Appointed by NHS Improvement, Michele will take up her position on the NBT Board on 1st July 2018. Interim Chair, Frank Collins, will depart at this time.

NBT Chief Executive, Andrea Young, said: “I am delighted to welcome Michele to our organisation and very much look forward to working with her at such an exciting time for the Trust. She has been working at NHS Board level for a number of years and brings a wealth of experience. I also want to thank our outgoing Chair, Frank Collins, for his huge contribution over the past six months.”

Michele said: “I am so thrilled to have been chosen for this role at NBT.  It is a real privilege to be given the opportunity to use my substantial organisational experience to support the Board and the staff at NBT on the path to improvement.  I will be working to make sure NBT is a clear and active voice in the local health and social care system.”

Jennifer Howells, South West Regional Director for NHS Improvement and NHS England, said: “Michele has extensive experience both within the NHS in her role as a Non-Executive Director, and in the private sector. I am confident she will provide the strong leadership needed to support the trust to continue to deliver sustainable improvements in care for local patients.”

Until March 2017 Michele ran her own consulting practice, working with a number of international media organisations on business transformation.  She has also set up and run media consulting businesses for Avid Technology and Langsdale Crook.

Between 1992 and 2004 she held a number of senior roles with the BBC including Director of Production and at one time was the News Editor for the BBC in Bristol.

Michele will leave the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust at the end of August 2018 when her current term comes to an end.  Prior to work with the RD&E she was also a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.

Michelle has been appointed from 1st July 2018 until 30th June 2021.
