North Bristol NHS Trust shortlisted for THREE Parliamentary Awards

Parliamentary awards logo

From the 6 nominations initially submitted by Darren Jones - NBT's local MP - a regional panel of senior NHS England and NHS Improvement representatives have selected 3 from North Bristol Trust to represent the South West. With over 700 nominations submitted nationally, this is an amazing achievement for those individuals selected, and for the Trust.

The next stage will be for a national judging panel to select a final winner in each category, which will be announced at a special event in the House of Commons in July 2021.

The nominations reflect how staff have had to adapt quickly this year to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, and to ensure that we can continue to provide exceptional patient care, even when times are uncertain.

Andrea Young, Chief Executive of North Bristol NHS Trust said:
I am thoroughly delighted that we have been recognised as regional champions for the Parliamentary Awards in 3 separate categories.

The teams and individuals nominated have put an incredible amount of time and work into transforming how we deliver our services for patients.

Thank you to Darren Jones for kindly nominating our staff and recognising the contributions they have made this year.

During such a challenging year, I am proud to say that our staff have not wavered in their commitment to providing exceptional patient care, and this national recognition of that is very much appreciated.

Congratulations to those who have made the shortlist and good luck for the final ceremony.

The shortlisted nominees are as follows:

Excellence in Mental Health Care: The Mental Health Liaison Team

Mental Health Liaison Team

The Mental Health Liaison Team, led by Ben Ford, is a multi-disciplinary service, providing safe and effective short term interventions for patients with mental health needs within a general hospital environment. During the COVID-19 pandemic the service has faced a significant increase in demand and the biggest referral rate in its history. The MHLT adapted to the circumstances and met the needs of this vulnerable patient group, creating innovative ways to meet the demand in collaboration with all partner organisations. The team feels honoured to have been considered for this award.

Future NHS Award: Rapid Deployment of CareFlow Connect & CareFlow Vitals (eObservations)

Team behind Rapid Deployment of CareFlow Connect & CareFlow Vitals

This team's nomination reflects the successful launch of both a patient handover app (CareFlow Connect) and patient observations app (CareFlow Vitals) at North Bristol NHS Trust. Originally planned as part of NBT’s ongoing digital transformation, the launch was accelerated to better support care as the trust escalated its COVID response. The rapidness of the roll out - accompanied by new devices to aid usage and intensive on-the-ground support, in partnership with the supplier (System C) – as well as the positive reaction from staff, highlight the reasons why the team responsible for getting this project off the ground have been nominated.

Excellence in Healthcare: Dr Scott Grier

Dr Scott Grier

Dr Scott Grier is the lead consultant responsible for the rapid development and launch of Retrieve, a new Adult Critical Care Transfer Service which enables the safe transfer of critically ill patients between intensive care units in the South West region. The success of the service reflects Dr Grier's passion for improving patient outcomes, patient safety and quality of care and is an excellent example of multidisciplinary partnership working.
