Westgate House Children's Centre celebrates its official opening
Friday, 20 December 2019
Last week, the team responsible for Children's Outpatient services at North Bristol trust celebrated the official opening of their new premises.
Westgate House, which the team share with the Avon & Somerset Police, is now home to a range of Children's Outpatient services which North Bristol Trust runs on behalf of University Hospitals Bristol Foundation Frust.
The team arranged a really special day for staff and the children of Saplings Day Nursery (which is across the road from Westgate House), including special guests from Bristol Zoo and Bristol City FC Under 23s team.
Andrea Young, Chief Executive of North Bristol NHS Trust also made an appearance, and gave a heartwarming speech to the staff in attendance.
"I just want to say thank you to everyone involved in the move into these new premises. I know the team has had to move several times in the past few years, but you have always done so with grace and good spirits.
The love and care that goes into the running of these services is apparent as soon as you walk through the door of this building. Thanks to Southmead Hospital Charity for providing the funding to make this place really come alive, it is a really lovely space for both staff to work and and children to receive the care they need.
Thanks also the Capital Planning team, I know they have worked extremely hard to make sure that the new building was ready as soon as possible.
I am really proud of the service we offer here, it is hard delivering paediatric services on a busy adult hospital site but the staff do it really well."
The team moved into Westgate House in July 2019 and services have been running smoothly since the team settled in. Previously, they shared Monk's Park House with the Occupational Health team. The new location is a great example of partnership working, with Children's Outpatients and Avon & Somerset Police co-existing happily under one roof.
At the core of this service are four staff: Debby Sainsbury, Nicky Harvey and Tracey Elvins and receptionist Mia Fearnley.
