Breast Reconstruction Follow-up Clinic

Patients attend the Breast Reconstruction Follow Up Clinic, to be reviewed by the plastic surgery team following surgery, up to three months after surgery. 

This clinic provides you with the opportunity to discuss your surgical results or further treatment plan.

It is often quite a busy clinic and the wait can sometimes be up to 3 hours therefore please feel free to have someone accompany you.

Mr Sherif Wilson who is the lead consultant for plastic breast reconstruction also runs a monthly follow-up clinic at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (www.gloshospitals.nhs.uk). If you are in this catchment area you can contact Wendy Rodmen, Mr Wilson’s secretary, to book this appointment.

Breast Reconstruction New Patient Clinic

The Breast Reconstruction new patient clinic is a consultant (doctor) led clinic with a breast reconstruction nurse present.

This clinic is for women and men who have been referred by their GP, other consultants, breast care nursing or other healthcare provider.

The clinic includes patients who:

  • have had or have breast cancer.
  • have asymmetry concerns follow breast cancer treatment
  • young men or women with congenital issues.

Please understand that funding may be required for consultation and treatment so please discuss this with your GP or other healthcare professional in the first instance.

You will need to attend a minimum of two face to face consultations before a treatment plan can be agreed with you.

Dementia HIT Public Lecture - Brain Imaging in Dementia Diagnosis and Treatment

Bristol Health Partners Dementia HIT group hosted (and recorded) a free public lecture on the 9th June. The lecture is titled 'Improving diagnosis and treatment of dementia: Can novel brain imaging help?' and was given by Professor Roy Jones; the Director of the Research Institute for the Care of Older People (RICE) in Bath, and Honorary Professor at the University of Bristol.

Doctors Induction

The Postgraduate Medical Education department organise the induction of doctors joining the Trust and oversee the delivery of mandatory and statutory training for doctors.

The doctor’s induction is run as a half day monthly face-to-face programme supplemented by a regional e-induction package.  This contains all of the mandatory and statutory training at Level 2 competency which is the required level for doctors in training.

Induction is held on the 1st Wednesday of the month in the Learning & Research Centre.

Clinical & Educational Supervision

The Postgraduate Medical Education department provide training and support to educational and clinical supervisors responsible for supervising junior doctors in the clinical areas.

This includes running core competency training that meets the GMC standards for educational and clinical supervision. 

Supervisors are also supported by nominated educational leads within the specialty who will be their first point of contact for medical education matters. The Education Lead will be responsible to the Director of Medical Education and Clinical Director for maintaining the standards and quality of education in their areas.

Core Medical & Specialty Training

In-house specialty training is generally held on a weekly basis and organised and delivered by each department. Regional specialty study days are also held frequently throughout the year.

The Medical Education department process study leave requests and payments for all junior doctors.

We regularly support the delivery of specialty and multi-professional training by providing resources, equipment and faculty.

Foundation Year Doctors

The Foundation Programme is a 2 year programme bridging the gap between medical undergraduate training and specialty training.

The Foundation Team manage the in house teaching programme for 1st and 2nd year foundation doctors. This includes fortnightly teaching sessions delivered by specialty experts and covering the foundation curriculum and objectives as specified by the General Medical Council.

In addition to this we provide regular ½ day simulation teaching sessions covering a range of acute medical scenarios with a strong human factors focus.

We host several regional teaching days over the year aimed at foundation year 2 doctors from across the Severn Deanery area. These include topics such human factors, research skills, and clinical skills.

These days are advertised and applied for through the Severn Deanery Website.

One day course accredited to the Resuscitation Council (UK) for registered Nurses/Midwives and Medical Staff.

Course content covers: ABCDE approach, high quality CPR & defibrillation, airway and trolley/equipment familiarisation, cardiac arrest scenario teaching and practice (CasTeach) ALS algorithm and leadership at a cardiac arrest.

Newborn Life Support (NLS)

The Resuscitation Council (UK) Newborn Life Support (NLS) course was launched in 1999 and is a standardised national course providing clear practical instruction in airway support and the theoretical background to illustrate its importance in resuscitation of the newborn.

European Trauma Course

Resuscitation Services Department

The Resuscitation Services Department provides professional and clinical leadership, guidance and support in all aspects of resuscitation across the Trust and associated agencies.

We coordinate and undertake the clinical and educational aspects of both adult and paediatric resuscitation for:

• Nursing
• Midwifery
• Medical Healthcare Professionals
• Allied Healthcare Professionals

As clinical experts in the field of resuscitation we are also responsible for attending cardiac arrests and clinical emergencies as part of the Clinical Emergency Team.

As a centre we are registered with the following organisations to provide National accredited courses:

• British Heart Foundation
