Dr Julian Thompson

Dr Julian Thompson is a Consultant in Intensive Care at Southmead Hospital Bristol, Clinical Director of the Severn Major Trauma Network, Associate Professor at the University of Stavanger, Norway, and a Critical Care Doctor for the Great Western Air Ambulance.

Julian was trained in Oxford and London, completed a doctorate in hypoxia and genetics at University College London and has worked in a range of international healthcare systems. Previous leadership experience includes being Executive Director of London’s Air Ambulance from 2011-15, working as a medical officer in the British Army and leading expeditions that include reaching the summit of Mount Everest. He is Deputy Editor of the Scandinavian Journal of Trauma, Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine and his research interests include critical care, major trauma and extreme environment medicine. 

Mr Andrew Riddick

Mr Andrew Riddick

Mr Andrew Riddick is a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Complex Limb Trauma Reconstruction and Elective Foot & Ankle Surgery. He graduated in 2004 from The University of Wales, College of Medicine (now the Cardiff University School of Medicine) and went on to complete his specialist training on the Welsh rotation.

Following an Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship in Frenchay Hospital in 2013, he started as a Consultant in Southmead Hospital in 2014. He regularly speaks at National and International meetings on the management of complex Orthopaedic limb trauma.

He was Clinical Governance Lead for T&O from 2014-18 and was successfully appointed to the role of the Major Trauma Centre Clinical Lead in 2021.

Aimee White

Aimee White graduated in 1998 from Sheffield Hallam University as a qualified Physiotherapist and after a 2 year introductory foundation rotational post at Northern General Teaching Hospital, Sheffield, she specialised in Musculoskeletal Out-patients and Orthopaedics for a number of years in Bristol. In Australia, in 2004 Aimee, was the Lead Therapist for a small rehabilitation Hospital, just outside of Sydney. On Aimee’s return to the UK she specialised in Paediatric Neurology within the acute and community setting and gained her foundation and advanced practice certificates as a British Bobath Therapist, (BBT). In 2014 the step into Major Trauma Services was taken by contributing to the set up, delivery and research projects for the Bristol Royal Hospital For Children Major Trauma Service. There the Major Trauma Service was voted twice as a runner up in the ‘Recognising Success Award’. Aimee has completed her foundation prince 2 foundation course and is passionate about service and project management within the NHS. 

Aimee started work as the MTC, HART and Seven Network Manager in March 2021.

Dr Nick Blundell

 

Dr Nick Blundell is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Southmead Hospital in Bristol and Quality Governance Lead for the Severn Major Trauma Network. He completed his medical degree in Cardiff, and his Emergency Medicine training in South Wales, Sydney and Severn. He has a MSc in Trauma Sciences and a PGC in medical education / simulation.

Dr Nicola Morgan

Dr Nicola Morgan is the training lead for the Severn Major Trauma Network.  She is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Trauma Team Leader at North Bristol NHS Trust.  She oversees, develops and delivers training in all aspects of trauma care along the patient's journey from arrival to discharge, across all healthcare groups.  She has a Diploma in Medical Education and has a wealth of experience in delivering simulated learning for all healthcare professions.  Her research is in simulation and interprofessional training, and faculty development.

Dr Philip Braude

Philip Braude was appointed as a consultant geriatrician to North Bristol Trust in 2019. He setup the CLARITY group in 2021. He has been awarded a Bristol Research Charity Fellowship in 2021 to undertake the VIGIL (Video Intervention In Geriatric cLinic) study. He is undertaking a DPhil in frailty and trauma at the University of the West of England.

Denise Axelsen

Denise Axelsen is qualified as a physiotherapist in 2010 (from University of the West of England), having worked within the fields of intensive care, neurosurgery and Major Trauma, where she has been working as a Major Trauma Practitioner since 2018. She supports the Network as Allied Health Professional Lead with the goal of uniting the delivery of rehabilitation across our region and throughout our Trauma Units.

Anna

Severn Major Trauma Network Nursing Education Lead

Anna Greene

Qualified as a nurse from Leeds University in 2010. She has always had a keen interest in Major Trauma, starting her career in Oxford John Radcliffe hospital Trauma ward, subsequently she moved to work in several London hospitals in the Emergency Departments. Since 2017 she has been working as a Major Trauma practitioner initially at St Georges Hospital in London and then relocating to the Southwest and Southmead hospital in 2021. Anna has a keen interest in Education and now has an extended role as the Severn Major Trauma Network Nursing Education Lead.
