Severn Pathology, based at Southmead Hospital, aims to provide a best in class, high quality, innovative, value for money pathology service that serves the needs of the healthcare market in the South-West region. The multi-million pound, four storey building houses NBT’s cellular pathology, neuropathology, genetics and microbiology services and is part of the Science Quarter, which brings together NBT, UK Health Security Agency and the University of Bristol.
We also host dedicated dispensary and clinical pharmacy teams in our award-winning Brunel Building, optimising the use of medication to promote the health, wellness and disease prevention of patients.

Continuing Professional Development and closer integration with clinical teams is actively supported through specialist pharmacists and our ward-based pharmacy teams.
We provide a variety of services, delivered by a range of staff, to ensure medicines are purchased, dispensed and supplied to patients safely and effectively.

×The laboratory within our Severn Pathology building accommodates all pathology disciplines including the Blood Sciences, Bristol Genetics Laboratory, a single Bristol Cellular Pathology Service and a combined Microbiology and Health Protection Agency service within one facility. We process samples sent from local GP Practices and hospitals, including Southmead Hospital, University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust.
Our Pathology team work with colleagues to test more than 1 million samples per year in the labs at Southmead Hospital and it is estimated that pathology investigations are involved in 70-80% of all healthcare decisions about diagnosis and treatment.

×The primary emphasis of this role is to independently perform a variety of Cardiac Investigations both non-invasive and invasive with a focus on echocardiography. Our department performs a range of invasive and non-invasive tests.

Working as part of a team and under the direction of senior staff to assist in the day-to-day support work of the Immunology laboratory, including data entry, and assisting with the reception and preparation of clinical specimens for testing.

Note this vacancy is a predominantly a data entry position with some sample processing and other laboratory and housekeeping roles. The post holder will be based in the Immunology laboratory.

Description
Successful applicants will be required to work as part of a team and undertake scientific and technical duties covering a wide range of analytical techniques under the supervision of senior scientific and technical staff. This may involve working in a technical team undertaking both technical and analytical tasks or within the scientific teams undertaking purely analytical tasks.
The candidate may assist in providing technical support in order to introduce new developments in disease diagnosis, under supervision from technical and scientific staff.
The candidate will also undertake clerical and administrative duties as required to support the service.
Applicants will be expected to possess a degree in a relevant science-based subject including experience of laboratory work. Registration as a Genetic Technologist or equivalent is desirable and successful applicants will be expected to work towards registration. Description
Weekly rotas will vary to include care of Stroke patients throughout their Acute pathway, including: -

· Pre-Alert/Bleep holding and management of acute stroke including thrombolysis and thrombectomy referrals (including as part of resident out of hours rota)
· Multidisciplinary team meetings
The specialty also participates in our own research as well as recruiting for national trials. There are always projects that you can get involved in or start developing your own ideas.
The role requires 1:3 weekends to be worked and nights once every 2 months.
Finally, we are keen that you will be afforded a similar level of training as enjoyed by our other team members. This will include the opportunity to attend SDEC clinics and assess patients there. The Stroke team runs a fortnightly review of all thrombolysed patients and those referred for thrombectomy. There is a regular journal club.

Your main responsibilities will be for the development and implementation of the pharmacy people and financial plans.
You will develop a robust workforce plan by engaging with key stakeholders, both within trust, ICS, region and beyond. This plan will consider the new training of pharmacy professionals and the expanding roles of the non-registered workforce. To deliver this you will lead the Pharmacy's Learning and Development team and work with a variety of teams at all levels of the NHS.
Your financial plan will include the use of medicines, their commissioning and a robust cost improvement plan to keep the pharmacy department in financial balance. To do this you will liaise with many stakeholders, both within and outside of the Trust, and lead the Pharmacy’s Pharmacoeconomics team.
Both of these responsibilities will require you to have excellent communication and negotiation skills with clinical and non-clinical colleagues at all levels.
