Sarcoma - For Clinicians
Soft tissue sarcomas referral
All suspected soft tissue sarcomas should be referred to the BSS for investigation and management. This can be done via the two-week cancer wait system directly to the plastic surgical team at Southmead Hospital Bristol. Otherwise cases can be referred directly to the MDM for discussion.
Soft-tissue sarcoma should be suspected if:
- Any soft tissue mass >5cm diameter
- Any deep, hard or fixed mass
- Any enlarging or painful soft tissue mass
Bone sarcomas referral
Suspected primary bone tumours should be referred directly to the Oxford Bone Tumour Service at www.ouh.nhs.uk/oxfordsarcomaservice/referrals
If you are in doubt about how to proceed the cases can be discussed at the BSS MDM first if requested.
