Bristol Genetics Laboratory (BGL)
Bristol Genetics Laboratory (BGL) includes Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics disciplines. It delivers a wide range of genetic analysis services to the UK and internationally. Being part of an integrated Pathology service, the Bristol Genetics Laboratory works in close collaboration with colleagues in other Pathology disciplines as well as the Clinical Genetics Service, obstetrics, paediatrics.

Bristol Genetics Laboratory (BGL) is committed to providing a service of the highest quality and holds full accreditation from CPA (UK) Ltd (CPA Reference Number: 2907). BGL is currently working towards accreditation from UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) in compliance with ISO15189:2012 (UKAS Reference Number 9307). BGL is a member of the UK Genetic Testing Network (UKGTN) and participates in appropriate external quality assessment schemes (including UK NEQAS, CEQAS, EMQN and EuroMRD schemes). The Bristol Genetics Laboratory has adopted the Quality Policy of North Bristol NHS Trust’s Pathology Sciences which can be found at Pathology Science Quality Policy.

‘BGL acceptance of a testing request acts as an agreement with the requestor’
This laboratory follows the recommendations laid down by the Joint Committee on Medical Genetics guidance document “Consent and Confidentiality in Genetic Practice September 2011”. This document places responsibility for informed consent upon the requesting clinician. The document also includes suggested proforma patient consent forms. Hence on sample receipt this laboratory presumes the clinician has obtained valid consent for the processing/storage issues described on the reverse of our request form.

Laboratory opening times: 8.30am – 6pm Monday to Friday
The laboratory does not offer an out of hours service.
