Test name: Clotting Screen
Condition / Indication: The clotting screen consists of the Prothrombin Time (PT) which is used as a screening test to assess the function of the extrinsic clotting pathway; the Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT) to assess the intrinsic clotting pathway and the derived fibrinogen which is calculated from the PT.
Special precautions & notes: Cannot use underfilled, overfilled, clotted , contaminated or samples aged (>24 hours). Poorly taken blood sample leading to sample activation.
Reference range: PT 9.5 -13 secs, APTT 21 – 33 secs, FIB 1.8 – 4.0 g/L
