Test name: EPO a.k.a. erythropoietin
Condition / Indication: EPO levels can be used to determine efficacy of EPO therapy. It is occasionally used in the investigation of polycythaemia. Lower EPO levels than expected have been seen with anaemias associated with the following conditions: rheumatoid arthritis, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, cancer, ulcerative colitis, sickle cell disease, and in premature neonates.
Special precautions & notes: Must be assayed within 8 hours or frozen within 24 hours of sample collection.
