ICU Bereavement Service & Follow-Up

Sadly, not all of our patients on the Intensive Care Unit survive. We realise this is an extremely distressing time for relatives and friends and we like to do all that we can to help.

At the time of death we offer a memento box in which any items of personal significance, such as cards and locks of hair can be kept. You can then expect a phone call within a few days to see how you are getting on. At this time we will ask if you would like a bereavement meeting with the ICU consultant and wider medical and nursing team responsible for the care of your loved-one. This is optional, but some people do find this beneficial. If you want to talk to someone before we get in touch with you then please feel free to call us.

We also hold an annual ICU memorial service to celebrate the lives of the people that have died on the ICU in the preceding year. This is held within the hospital and is usually in December. All friends and family are very welcome to attend.
