Checking You Still Need an Appointment

We know that sometimes your circumstances change and you may no longer need an appointment that you’ve been on a waiting list for.

If you’re on a waiting list at our hospital, we may contact you from time to time to confirm if you still need an appointment or procedure (sometimes referred to as waiting list validation). This helps us ensure that our waiting lists are up-to-date and reduces waiting times for everyone.

How will you contact me?

If you’ve given us your mobile number, you may receive a text message with a link to our online patient portal. You’ll be asked if you want to remain on the waiting list for a specific department and will need to respond with ‘Yes’, ‘No’ or ‘Unsure’.

Text messages will come from +44 7860 039 092.

If you haven’t given us a mobile number, you’ll be sent a letter by post.

What do I need to do?

If you receive a text message, please do not ignore it. Follow the instructions in the message to confirm if you still need an appointment or not.

After responding to the text message, you do not need to do anything else.

What happens next?

If you confirm you still need an appointment, we will keep you on the waiting list and inform you of your appointment as soon as possible.

If you tell us that you no longer need to be on the waiting list, we will discharge you back to the team that referred you.

If you do not respond to the text message, you’ll be sent a letter by post letter asking you to phone us. If you do not respond to either, we will keep you on the waiting list.
