
They are core members of the lung cancer MDT and regional mesothelioma MDT, requesting all PET scans, CT biopsies, EBUS, thoracoscopies, communicating outcomes and ensuring appropriate follow up.
The LCNS attend all the lung cancer clinics at Southmead Hospital and are available to provide specialist support to patients, families and healthcare professionals. These clinics include pre-diagnostic clinic, pleural, surgical (including Skype pre op assessments), oncology both clinical and medical.
The LCNS have two designated nurse led clinics per week where new patients are given their diagnosis, prepared for treatment options, including local and national clinical trials, manage symptom control (including prescriptions), and provide specialist information regarding benefits relating to their cancer and local support groups.
They manage the oral TKI patients and provide all post op surgical follow up.
All patients are offered holistic need assessments, living well and energise education programmes.
They are a member of the national PEER review programme, and local network steering group as well as national LEAD programmes to improve education on lung cancer, including work on publications, posters and speaking nationally.
