Children's (Paediatrics) Nutrition & Dietetics

Our Paediatric dietitians have experience in most areas of general and specialist paediatrics. We provide an inpatient service to the neonatal intensive care unit.

We provide outpatient services at Southmead Hospital Bristol and Cossham Hospital and at some special schools. We work closely with Health Visitors and Midwifes as well as GPs to ensure the best possible care for the patient.

For some very specialised areas, such as ketogenic diets for control of epilepsy, we also act as lead dietitians for the whole of the South West Region.

Our Paediatric team can work with any patient from the moment they are born up to 18 years old.

If you think you would benefit from seeing one of our Paediatric dietitians you should first speak to your GP or hospital consultant.  They will refer you to our department and we will then contact you to arrange an appointment.

We cover most areas of Paediatrics, including:

  • Food intolerances
  • Obesity
  • Faltering growth
  • Fussy eaters and behavioural problems around eating
  • Coeliac disease
  • Common childhood conditions

Ketogenic Diet for Epilepsy

We only take referrals for the ketogenic diet for patients who have all or part of their epilepsy care from a Consultant Paediatric Neurologist. We also need to have agreed funding from your local NHS Trust.
