Dr Mark Pyke trained for 11 years to become a consultant anaesthetist; beginning in the London area before moving to Bristol for 6 years. He passed his Fellowship examinations for the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 1999 and enjoyed a couple of years in the sun whilst working and learning in Australia and New Zealand. Dr Mark Pyke has been a consultant anaesthetist at Southmead Hospital since 1994.

Dr Mark Pyke is also the Lead Bariatric Anaesthetist,  looking after patients requiring weight reduction surgery at North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT), and has successfully anaesthetised over 600 patients for this type of surgery. He also specialises in ultrasound guided nerve blocks for pain relief after surgery.

Dr Mark Pyke is heavily involved in anaesthetic assessment clinics and runs clinics to assess patients’ fitness for major surgery by means of a cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPEX) machine.
